"I would like to wish Patrick every success with his new club. In his short time at the club he showed potential and given a better financial climate we would have preferred to see him stay at the club and develop," said Gills chairman Paul Scally.

Scally's comments suggest we would have preferred to have kept Patrick, who has flitted in and out of the side during his short stay at Priestfield, but the bid from Preston was clearly one well worth taking.

Scally continued, "As a club we remain as ambitious as ever, but if we are unable to achieve the levels of income we have budgeted for, then we will always be forced into making decisions that we would otherwise not necessarily have made."

The transfer, should it go ahead, brings a substantial amount of money to the club, while allowing a fringe player the chance to further his career.
