All quiet on the transfer front

Shaw: Happy to warm the bench, so it seems
The Gills have been in the market for a striker - and the big news could have brought a smile to many Gills fans, if only Paul Shaw had decided to return to Priestfield.

However, the former Gills favourite, currently at Sheffield United, rejected the chance to rejoin the Gills on a one-month loan, saying he'd prefer to remain at Bramall Lane and help them achieve promotion. That despite being one of ELEVEN strikers now at Bramall Lane, following the arrival of Watford striker Danny Webber.

Another player to reject Gillingham's advances, for a second time, is Watford striker Bruce Dyer. A couple of seasons ago, it seemed the Gills weren't a big enough club for Dyer, who eventually moved to Barnsley, before finding his way to Watford. Following an enquiry by the Gills this week, Dyer once again turned down a move to the Gills.

Douglas: Stan wants him (and McEveley) until the end of the season
So, the Gills were sadly unable to find a striker to bolster their ranks, but it's not all bad news, as the club are still in talks with Blackburn Rovers over Jon Douglas and Jay McEveley's loan deals. It is hoped that Blackburn will allow the Gills to use the two players for the remainder of the season.

As the original loan deals were struck before the end of the transfer window, we are allowed to extend the existing deals, so there may still be good news for Gills fans soon, even though the transfer window is now shut.

We'll report any further developments here on Gills365.
