Bentley, who joined the Gills from League One champions Southend United, knows all too well what a difference a quality finisher makes to a team at this level.

"We had Freddy Eastwood last year and he helped us out massively last year," he explained.

"Without him I don't think we would have been promoted.

"Defence and midfield players are pretty similar but it does really help when you can get a striker who can get you 20 plus goals a season."

Gillingham currently have new forward signings Gary Mulligan, Guy Ndumbu-Nsungu and Dean McDonald at the club, but of that trio, only Nsungu has hit double figures in the League (10 goals for Darlington last season). If Gillingham are looking to push for promotion, they'll need one (or more) of their front men to hit closer to double that tally.
