Gills target Darren Bazeley has been released by Wolves and talk of bringing Rod Wallace and Dean Holdsworth to Priestfield is hotting up.
Boss Andy Hessenthaler has kept in touch with Bazeley since he failed a medical before he was due to sign before transfer deadline day in March and ended the season playing reserve team football at Molineux.
And Wanderers boss Dave Jones is ready to listen to offers for the transfer-listed striker.
First-team coach Wayne Jones has also reiterated the club's desire to sign Bolton duo Holdsworth and Wallace, who were both at Priestfield last week for talks. He said: "Dean has played at the very top, and is a good target man who has scored his fair ratio of goals. We have to be interested when players like that become available."
Holdsworth has been linked with a move to Gillingham before but his wages were an apparent stumbling block and he is likely to have to take a significant pay cut if he did sign.
Wallace would also be a big signing having had experience with Southampton, Leeds and Rangers. He still has a house in Surrey and may relish the prospect of playing in the south, but wages is again likely to be a key factor in any deal.
