Byfield: Could link up with his old boss at Boundary Park
Oldham manager Ronnie Moore is looking to bolster his side's strikeforce before the start of the new season - and has targeted Byfield as a potential signing, along with Jamie Cureton, Chris Greenacre and Andy Morrell.

Talking to Sky Sports, Moore said, "I've not quite ended my search yet," confirmed Moore.

"We've always had Chris in mind and that allowed us to let Scott Vernon go to Blackpool.

"So we're still looking for an experienced striker and we're hoping to speak again with Andy Morrell's agent about a possible deal there.

"I think he wants to speak to two or three Championship clubs first but he would give us something different."

Moore may miss out on Morrell however, as the player's agent Lee Payne has confirmed that the striker has been offered a new deal by his current club Coventry - and that a move to League One is unlikely.

"I think he'll stay at Coventry now and sign a deal there," he told Sky Sports.

Byfield has played for Ronnie Moore before, while at Rotherham - and the Latics manager has managed to get the best out of the temperamental front-man, who has disappointed at Priestfield after an encouraging start at the Gills.

We'll report any developments on this story as we get them.
