Byfield nets Gills365 monthly accolade

Byfield: Superb in September
Byfield received more than half the total vote to run away with the accolade, impressing the Gills fans with his hard-working displays up front.

His performances earned him plaudits from the fans and the management, but also earned him some stick from his teammates. Manager Neale Cooper not only heaped praise on his striker, but handed him the captain's armband for the Tranmere match, prompting the Gills players to change the striker's nickname to 'Darren Cooper'.

His high point of the month came with four goals in the space of four days, as he scored twice in the midweek Carling Cup victory over Portsmouth, then bagged another brace as he helped the Gills come from behind twice and earn a draw at Tranmere Rovers.

Sadly, he ended the month injured after picking up a knock in the home win over Chesterfield, but his performances in the month of September made him the stand-out choice for Gills365's Player of the Month accolade.
