Hislop: Finally signed for the Gills
His arrival is Neale Cooper's third signing from north of the border (fourth if you include Brent Sancho, whose last club was Dundee).

The 27-year-old striker has an impressive scoring record in Scottish footbalI, netting 51 goals in 118 starts - and his arrival adds some much-needed competition to the forwards currently at the club. With fellow Scot Paul Shields already at Priestfield, plus Darren Byfield, Steve Claridge and the on-loan Moses Askikodi, Gillingham now have options up front.

There were concerns over the state of Hislop's knee, which has undergone operations during the summer to repair ligament damage, and we understand that Hislop in fact failed a medical at the club earlier in the week. The club were seeking medical advice regarding the physical state of Hislop, who is fit and ready to go into the squad immediately, and it seems they are happy with the verdict of the medics and have gone through with the move for the striker, who is thought to cost in the region of £50,000.

"He will be an asset to us," Neale Cooper told the official Gillingham website after announcing Hislop's signing.

"I feel that Steve will offer us something different as he is bigger than what we've got up front and has a good engine. It is true that he has had to recover from a knee problem, but he is over that and is back playing - and he will offer something to the team that hasn't been there.

"I signed him before when I was at Ross County, he did really well for me and I'm sure he'll lead the line well. He will fit in well with the rest of the lads here too, which is important."

Hislop is expected to go straight into the squad for the two Bank Holiday weekend matches with Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

We wish Steve all the best in his career at Priestfield and hope that he can put his injury problems behind him and hit the back of the net regularly for the Gills.
