"There are a lot of good sides in this league so it's going to be hard. The good thing is that some of the boys have been there before and know what it's about."
Reacting to the opening set of matches this season, Cooper said, "Every game is winnable, it's how you go about it. I don't mind who we are playing. I never put that fear factor into it. We will give it our best shot whoever we play against.
The gaffer also reiterated his intention to transform the Gills from an ugly, long-ball side to a hard-working, passing unit - and believes the fans will react positively to this change.
"All I want is for the players to show the people that they are giving 100 per cent. You are not going to win every game but as long as they have given that and played the right kind of footbalI the fans will appreciate it.
"I do want to have a hard working side, a fit side and a side that likes to pIay footbaIl."
So far, we've seen players going out the Priestfield exit door, but this has not fazed Cooper, who's already planning his transfer targets - and will be making moves to secure their services in the near future.
"We have just come down and have lost a few quality players due to different circumstances, so we have to try and replace them as best we can," the gaffer told the official website.
"You sometimes find that when you drop divisions wages go down and players find that hard. They look for the best deal they can get and that's what some of them have done. It's a players market at the moment.
"We have got to replace them on the right kind of money to do the right kind of job for the team. There is still a good bit of quality in the team and hopefully if we can add to that we will be up there with the best of them."
