Scally: "It was a tough call"
Docherty has left the club with immediate effect leaving Iffy Onuora in temporary charge of the team for Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paints Trophy match with Luton Town.

Son of former Manchester United gaffer Tommy Docherty, Mick, who also went by the nickname "The Doc" worked tirelessly behind the scenes behind Ronnie Jepson and took shared ownership of the managerial reins when Jepson resigned earlier this season.

Talking to the Gillingham Official Website, chairman Paul Scally explained: "It was a tough call letting Doc go. He was left in an almost impossible situation and has worked hard for Gillingham so we naturally thank him for that.

"I've made the decision in the best interests of our football club and I'm getting ever closer to naming our new manager. We wish Mick well in his future career."

Gills365 also wishes The Doc all the very best for the future.
