After yet another season of mediocrity, the Gills chairman now feels the club is in a position to move forward and build a squad capable of challenging for promotion this coming season.

Scally confirmed that one player Gillingham are hoping to sign is Rotherham United striker Delroy Facey - and it is hoped that he will be just one of up to 15 new arrivals at the club this summer.

Talking to the Kent on Sunday, Scally explained: "We are seeing players most days to be honest. We have a long list and Delroy Facey is on it. But we want to be sure we get the right players so we're not just going to snap up the first ones we see.

"We're being cautious because we want to build a team capable of taking us up and out of League One and back into the Championship. It's different from just bringing players in to fill a role.

"By next season I'd imagine fans can expect to see around 10-15 new faces. I think the fans will be pretty pleased when they see the signings we're going to make and that we're in for an exciting season."
