Flynn named Gills skipper
Talking to the official club website, Flynn explained how pleased he was to be given the armband.
"You've just got to go out and give 100% to your game, and if my football, you know, experience can help them on the pitch then that'll make me happy as well, and I'm sure, you know, with a few of us talking it just instils that extra little bit of belief in the team and I just hope I can do that for all the boys.
"It's an incentive for me, I'm captaining them now and I want to keep the captaincy, I want to show that I'm a worthy captain, and I want to go out there and prove it to myself even more.
"I'll be wearing the arm band and doing the business end on the pitch, and Ian, you know, he's had a good career and he's very experienced, so I guess the manager's just thought if there are things that some of the younger boys, you know with me not being the oldest, they might be able to speak to Ian a little bit better off the pitch, but like for me and Ian, I couldn't be happier for him and he's the same with me."
Gills manager Ronnie Jepson explained why he appointed the chirpy Welshman as the captain for the coming season, saying, "Michael Flynn has come back pre-season and I think he has learnt a bit from last year. He is one of those talkers in the team and in and around the place. I know he is ambitious and wants to do well in the game and I think that he can be a leader of men. He has been at a club like Wigan, and he progressed to Wigan from the non-league, so he knows what it is all about. He has got that hunger and hopefully he will lead the lads well out on that football pitch."
We wish Flynny and Coxy all the best in their respective roles this season.
