FOGFC Press Release - Football in the Community

Last updated : 27 January 2006 By Simon Head

Dear Members and Supporters,

First of all, a huge thank you to everyone that has donated to FOGFC initiatives over the last 3 months.

We now have over 150 paying members and have raised close to £8,000 in total for our various projects, we think that raising such an amount of money in just over 3 months is fantastic.

Although we have not raised as much as we intended for the ‘Sign a Striker’ campaign, we still have £7,000 made available to Ronnie Jepson. If the management do not identify any players that they wish to bring in during January, we will continue to raise until close season, ensuring that we provide the manager with as much revenue as possible.

Part of our aim as ‘Friends of Gillingham FC’ is to take football to the wider Kent Community and we are delighted to announce that we are now working alongside the Gillingham FC ‘Football in the Community’ team and ex Gills legend – Steve Lovell.

Steve and his team work with close to 70 local schools on a number of projects working on both the football and education sides.
The ‘Football in the Community’ scheme entails going into schools and working in classrooms as well as offering coaching advice after school hours.

The FITC team is keen to help as many schools and school children as possible and to achieve their goal they need additional funding.

We are therefore asking individual members and local businesses to help us support this initiative via donations. All donations will be eligible for Gift Aid and another added benefit is that any money we raise may additionally be eligible for Sportsmatch aid (http://www.sportsmatch.co.uk/about/index.html), a government based group that will match any donation provided for the purpose of the
development of grass roots sport in England.

Corporate sponsors can benefit from signage at the events as well as logos on promotional literature and websites, ensuring that as a business you receive maximum marketing benefit on your investment.

What we ask from any corporate sponsor, is that you commit to supporting this venture for a minimum period of one year. This allows the Community Team to plan and budget for the entire year, enabling them to make the most from any donation.

Several different options are available to suit all budgets.

FOGFC think this is an extremely valuable and worthwhile cause and will be offering our support to Steve and his team.
