Forest row could free up Ternent protege

Megson: Blazing row
Shortly before Johnson was introduced as a substitute, he and Megson had a blazing row on the touchline, in full view of the fans.

Forest boss Megson later explained, "I asked David to run down the touchline and make sure the defenders were on their toes as we were preparing to defend a direct free-kick.

"But David didn't want to do that and I'll deal with him on Monday."

According to reports in the press, it seems Megson has told Johnson he doesn't want him at the club - and that he is free to leave. Early reports indicate that Hull City have expressed an interest, but Johnson's availability may well have alerted Gills boss Ternent, who has had a good relationship with the player following their time together at Bury and then again at Burnley, where he scored five goals in eight games during a successful loan spell.

With a record of 123 goals in 316 league appearances during his career, Johnson is a proven finisher who would be a major asset to any club. He was the hottest striker in this division just two seasons ago after netting 27 league goals for Forest as they pushed for promotion through the playoffs. Since then, however, managerial changes and a broken leg have halted Johnson's career somewhat - and now he row with new manager Megson seems to have ended his Forest career.

The result? A top quality striker is available, possibly for a nominal fee. With Johnson's link to Ternent, could a move to the Gills be on the cards?
