Simeon Jackson grabbed a goal in each half to see off 10-man Huddersfield and ease Gillingham's relegation fears.Jackson fired the Gills ahead from the corner of the box before Nathan Eccleston was sent off for a two-footed challenge on Stuart Lewis.
The Gills quickly took advantage and Jackson raced on to Rene Howe's flick to double the lead in emphatic fashion.
Theo Robinson had a goal disallowed for the Terriers and Gary Roberts hit the post but the Gills held on.
Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds:
"26 minutes have cost us the game. The opening 25 minutes when it was 11 v 11 I thought we were very, very poor.
"We then go down to 10-men and the players responded excellently after that. But then we switch off at the start of the second half and it's game over then.
"But the players responded again and that was very pleased to see. With a bit more luck we could have got something from this game."
