Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler aims to bring in a new striker after a shortage at the club forced him to start the season with a lone forward.New signing Danny Kedwell, 28, has played up front on his own so far as he is the only fit striker at the club.
Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "Keds will burn out sooner or later with the work he does.
"We are trying to get him a partner, hopefully in the next week or ten days we'll have somebody."
Adam Birchall is ruled out for six months with a knee injury, Dennis Oli is ill and Stefan Payne, who came off the bench in Tuesday's game against Brighton, is still gaining match fitness after a pre-season injury.
We are limited in forward areas, we have had to work on that shape after losing Birchall
Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler
Although Hessenthaler is keen to add to his strike force, he has been pleased with how the 4-5-1 formation has served them so far.
"It's worked well for us with a win over Cheltenham and on Tuesday we were good value for something. We are limited in forward areas, we have had to work on that shape after losing Birchall." he said.
Kedwell, in his first season as a Football League player following his summer move from AFC Wimbledon, is happy with whatever role his manager gives him.
He told BBC Radio Kent: "It's difficult, it's hard work but it's my job. I'm sure the gaffer will bring someone in soon but it's going well at the minute. I'm sure once we get going we will be alright."
There will be commentary of Gillingham's game away to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday 13 August on BBC Radio Kent.
