Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler says he will be proud if former Gills player Matt Jarvis makes his England debut on Saturday.Jarvis, 24, could feature for England in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales, who include another former Gills player Andrew Crofts in the squad.

Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "It's been a Matt Jarvis hotline on my phone this week which is great.

"When he was called up it was a proud moment because we brought him through."

Jarvis began his professional career with Gillingham, making his league debut in 2003 at the age of 17.

After making 110 appearances for the Kent club he moved to Wolves in 2007, who were then playing in the Championship.

He's a lovely lad, nothing fazes him, it won't change him as a person, he'll still be the same Matt Jarvis

Hessenthaler said: "For me we played just a small part because at the end of the day it's about what he's achieved by himself, the hard work he's put in week in week out.

"He's gone from Gillingham to play in the Premiership and he's probably been one of Wolves' best performers this season - he's been a stand out - and that's why he's got the call-up he has.

"He's a lovely lad, nothing fazes him, it won't change him as a person, he'll still be the same Matt Jarvis.

"He'll keep his feet on the ground and he'll enjoy what he's achieving at the moment.

"It'll be lovely to see him out on the pitch at the weekend and it'll be lovely to see Andy Crofts playing for Wales as well - two Gillingham players head to head in a massive international game.

"Two boys who have come from Gillingham Football club so it's great for us and I'm sure all the Gills fans will be behind both of them at the weekend."
