Oxford will be without defender Damien Batt, who begins a three-match ban following his red card against Southend in midweek.
Boss Chris Wilder has no other injury or suspension worries for the trip to the team two places above them.
Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "It's all in our own hands. We've got to play teams around us in the next few weeks. Oxford are around us and Rotherham are in third place.
"Once we get through that period of games, we know where we want to be. We're in decent form, Oxford are in decent form so it should be a decent game.
"We went there [in November] and it was the start of getting the monkey off our back with the away form."
