The former Wimbledon striker, who can also operate in midfield, has found himself down the pecking order at the Boleyn Ground since his arrival at the club. His arrival gives Andy Hessenthaler more options in attack, after a spell where Gillingham have struggled to find the net.

Talking to his management group's website, Nowland said, "When the chance arrived to go to Gillingham I went and saw the manager and asked him for his thoughts. He told me that I had a lot of competition to get into the first team with the likes of Teddy (Sheringham), Sergei (Rebrov) and Bobby (Zamora) and that the move would allow me to get some games under my belt, which would help improve my game and my confidence.

"I am now really looking forward to joining up with the team and will be doing my best to get into the team and score some goals."

Nowland looks set to join up with the Gills squad in time for their trip to Plymouth Argyle this weekend.
