Gills ready to add to squad?

Scally: in negotiations with at least two potential signings
Talking to the Kent on Sunday, Scally said, "They are from Championship clubs or above. If we are successful, one is likely to be a loan signing for the rest of the season, the other a permanent addition to the squad."

Clearly much work has gone on behind the scenes, but with the Gills' well-publicised money problems, signing the sort of quality the club so desperately needs is proving a tough challenge, particularly with players' agents involved.

Scally said, "We've had some positive responses, but with agents involved it is often not that easy. Players may want to come here but if their agents do not then we have a problem."

Ronnie Jepson has made no secret of his need for a goalkeeper, with the club's only senior stopper, Kelvin Jack, proving a disastrous signing after spending yet another lengthy spell on the treatment table.

But with the side lacking a natural goalscorer, a genuine midfield playmaker and with the worst defence in League One, clearly any sort of outfield signing will surely help boost Jepson's ailing squad.
