Gills receive cup draw boost

Sixteen teams, eight from the Northern Section and eight from the Southern Section, were drawn to avoid the first round and go straight through to the second round of the competition.

Gillingham were the penultimate team from the Southern Section to be drawn, and in so doing manage to improve on last year's performance in the competition, when they were eliminated at the first-round stage by Nottingham Forest.

For the rest of the teams in the competition, the draw for the first round will take place next Saturday (August 11th) on Soccer AM.
