Gills set to face former hero

Marlon: A goal every other game for the Gills
King spent a successful, if controversial, time at Priestfield, scoring 47 goals in 93 games over three seasons before moving to Nottingham Forest for £950,000 in November 2003.

Since moving to the City Ground, King has worked under three managers, but it seems he has fallen out of favour with current boss, and strict disciplinarian, Gary Megson - and the striker has been sent out on loan.

Leeds United are the grateful recipients - and manager Kevin Blackwell said of his new loan acquisition, "A striker gives you another option sometimes, we're in with a chance of pushing into the play-offs and I might as well go for it.

"If you sign a defender people say you're being negative, but with Marlon I know we've got a good option there."

Speaking to the press on his arrival at Elland Road, Marlon said, "When I learnt Kevin Blackwell wanted me at Leeds I did not hesitate."

"It's a massive club and one which should be in the Premiership. When I get my chance I hope to make the most of it and get some goals."

King's departure from Gillingham left a sour taste in the mouth of some fans, as it seemed he had actively sought a move away from the club who continued to support him during his time in jail. But now he is an opposition player - and there will be no standing on ceremony at Elland Road, as the likes of Chris Hope and Ian Cox will be doing their utmost to ensure that Marlon and his strike partner, the on-form Rob Hulse, don't get a sniff of goal this weekend.

In recent times, players who leave Priestfield in an attempt to further their careers have seen their form and successes take a dip - and Gills fans will be hoping that the same fortune befalls Marlon King - at least on Saturday, anyway.
