Gills sign Savage

Savage: adds to striking options
Savage adds another option up front, but if his stats are to be taken into account, it seems that we're still looking for a goalscorer. Savage has played for four clubs so far in his career, making 31 starts and 20 substitute appearances. But in that time the big striker has managed just one goal.

Savage has been without a club after being released by Bristol City at the end of last season - and has been on trial with a number of clubs in an attempt to win a permanent deal this season, but until now there have been no takers.

But Gills manager Ronnie Jepson has decided to take on the former Reading, Wycombe, Bury and Bristol City man - and it will be interesting to see if the gaffer, who was himself a big, strong centre forward in his day, can coach the goal-shy Savage into a dangerous front man - as we seem to already have problems getting goals from our strikers. His record doesn't promise much, but it remains to be seen whether Savage will help improve matters in that area.
