McCammon has not started a game in 2010 and Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "Going out on loan will be good for him and the club.

"He needs games and if he comes back fit in four weeks that would be great."

He added: "We want him sharp and scoring goals then he could come back because we might need someone like him. Last season he stepped in and put in a good shift.

"At the moment he's frustrated, like all the other boys who are not playing. He didn't want to drop down to League Two.

"Now he's seriously thinking about it because it might get his career back on track."

McCammon, who joined Gillingham on a three-year deal from Doncaster in August 2008, rejected a move to Carlisle in January.

One player who is leaving the club on loan is striker Jacob Erskine who has joined Ryman League Bishops Stortford.

Another two, ex-Charlton youngster Rashid Yussuff and Stuart Lewis, have been made available for loan.
