Hessenthaler continued: "It's just one of those things - I spoke to Chris and he's feeling a lot better but I think it will be a couple of weeks.

"It's a blow because he's been one of our most consistent players this season and we'll miss his quality with the football.

"His dead ball play has been fantastic - we've created a lot of chances and he's scored goals so it is a bit of a blow for us."

Meanwhile, three players could make their comebacks from injury for Gillingham on Saturday.

Simon King, who has not played for 18 months, Andy Barcham, who last played in September, and Dennis Oli, whose last league game was six weeks ago, are all in the squad to travel to Macclesfield.
