After helping Norwich win the Division One title last season, Roberts was released by Canaries boss Nigel Worthington.

New player/coach Roberts, who netted 8 goals for Norwich last season, despite being in and out of the side due to the loan signings of Darren Huckerby and Peter Crouch, clearly feels he can produce the goods at Championship level - and is keen to get the season underway.

Roberts said: "Andy's still playing at 38 and I want to play on for as long as I can. He's an inspiration to me.

"That was a little thing at Norwich - as soon as I hit 35 the gaffer had had enough because he finished playing at that age.

"But Andy doesn't have any problems with my age and I can't wait to start playing again."
