Iwan: Set for loan move?
Talking to the U's official website, manager Steve Thompson said, "I've told him he would be very welcome here. He's a very good pro and he would be good for the players and for the fans.

"To be fair to Iwan, money hasn't been an issue in our talks. I'm selling the club to him on a footballing basis and he is thinking it over because his decision has to be the right one for him and his family.

"He's promised me an answer within the next 24 hours."

Colchester United are also thought to be interested in Roberts, who has stated that he wants to continue playing this season, with a view to moving into a full-time coaching role next season.

It seems Roberts is unhappy at Gillingham - and a loan move will help the club financially, with one player less on the wage books. However, with goals at a premium, offloading a striker may not be the most prudent move, unless there is a new man coming in. Seeing as the club has struggled to bring in a suitable striker so far, one wonders whether Roberts will be allowed out on loan.

We'll report any further developments here on Gills365.
