Jepson fails in Akinfenwa bid

Jepson: wanted Akinfenwa, but talks broke down between the two chairmen
Talking to the press after the game, Jepson explained, "The talks broke down on Thursday between our chairman and their chairman. I am not going to look for excuses. I never have done. We haven't got the lad in and we have to go with what we got. These things happen so I just have to get on with it.

"I think the press know that the lad was the centre-forward Adebayo Akinfenwa from Swansea City. I don't usually discuss these things until the deal is done as I wouldn't want to be disrespectful to Swansea Manager Kenny Jackett. He would have been a good addition to us. I asked to take him on-loan a few weeks ago and then it was for a fee. I don't know how it stands now and we'll have to wait and see, but I wanted him as a permanent player."

Sadly it's yet another case of the club failing to secure a deal for a player - and the frustration has clearly gotten to the Gills support, who reacted during the Scunthorpe match with chants of "Scally out" ringing round Priestfield Stadium.
