Julian is available on a free transfer and Gills manager Mark Stimson is keen to bring the Stevenage stopper to Priestfield.
Talking to the club's official website, Stimson explained, "We've had the opportunity to talk with Alan and bring him down to the club today so that we can show him the ground. There are a couple of other league clubs interested and he's now going to go away and have a think about what we've offered.
"I'm quietly confident that we will be able to add him to our squad and with Derek Stillie retiring another goalkeeper would be good for competition."
Talking to the KM, Stimson added, "If we can persuade him to sign for us then that would be a big plus for the club.
"He has been the best keeper in the Conference for the last three years but unfortunately he was under 24 and commanded a massive fee.
"He'll provide great competition, he's young and he needs to make league appearances."
