King made 164 starts and 3 substitute appearances for Barnet in four seasons at the club. He was transfer listed after he turned down a new contract at Underhill, as he would have been available on a free transfer at the end of the 07/08 season.

Talking to the BBC his agent Richard Rosser said, "It was key to Simon's decision that the club which gave him his real break in football would be handsomely rewarded." Rosser added, "He would like to take this opportunity to thank Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous, manager Paul Fairclough and, most importantly, Barnet's supporters for making his time at Underhill such a memorable one.

Simon is Gillingham's second new signing, and he comes with our best wishes for a successful career at Gillingham
