McDonald: failed to shine at Priestfield

McDonald struggled to hold down a first team berth at Priestfield last season after his arrival from Ipswich Town - and this week travelled to Scotland to discuss terms with the Scottish Premier League side.

McDonald has one year remaining on his Gills contract, but his agent is currently negotiating his release.

Caley boss Charlie Christie confirmed he had made a move for the player, saying: "We're hopeful Dean will join us."
