His son, Gills fan Clive Marriott (aka Medway Blue), mailed me today asking if I’d put a headline on the site in remembrance of his father.
He wrote: "I'm sending this mail in the hope that you might be able to ''headline'' the fact that my ''dad'' Michael Marriott sadly passed away on Saturday morning, 9th July at the age of 67.It would be very special and fitting for a great dad who supported ''The Gills'' from the age of 27 after he moved to Kent from London.
"He then introduced me to watching the Gills from 1974,standing in the corner by the ''floodlight'' in Redfern Avenue, he then moved to the Gordon Road side and I then transferred myself to the ''Rainham End'' where i have been a season ticket holders more or less ever since!! My children, three boys, have also attended over a long period of time and they too have season tickets in the Rainham End today (Block 5,Rows L & M).
"My Dad has always been known to many in the 'Medway' area, through watching Gills home and away and his second love watching cricket. He was also known for his association with Anchorians Cricket Club, watching & supporting me and his grandchildren up until a short while back…
"The funeral will take place on Tuesday 19th July,1.20pm at ''Medway Crem''n'', Blue Bell Hill, Chatham....Any donations would need to be made to wisdom hospice or to John Weir Funeral Directors, marked Michael Marriott.
"My Dad will be sadly missed by his wife Alice, sons Clive & Erwin, daughters Heidi & Karen plus grandchildren Andrew, Dale, Ryan, Katey, Charlotte, Andrew, Nicholas and Jonathon and many others."
"Rest in Peace Dad...."
