Mulligan going for goals

Mulligan: On the goal trail for Gillingham
Mulligan, who impressed for the Gills whilst on loan from Sheffield United, impressed fans with his work-rate than his goalscoring. The Irishman's unselfish play tended to create chances for others rather than himself, and as a result he scored just the once last season.

Despite that, Mulligan, now officially a Gills player after signing a two-year deal last week, remains upbeat about his goalscoring abilities - and has already set his target for next season.

Talking to the Kent Messenger, Mulligan said, "Generally, I'm a good finisher. I've never really played much first-team football but in reserves I've been good and at Wolves I was top scorer in their academy side.

"With a two-year contract I'll be able to settle down, work hard and the goals will start to come. I'll be aiming to get at least 15."

It's a bold statement of intent from the Gills new-boy - and fans will be hoping he can get into the scoring groove early next season as the Gills look for a vast improvement on last season's performances.
