Hess: Freshening things up
Speaking to the official Gills website, Hessenthaler said that Nowland was '...a player that we have liked for some time.'

'We need to freshen it up and he will go straight into the team at the weekend.'
Hessenthaler also explained more about the loan deal. Nowland will be available to play three games for the Gills, Plymouth (a), the Sheffield Utd (h) and Millwall (a). The fourth match of his loan deal is against his current club, West Ham - and manager Alan Pardew has decided to bar Nowland from playing for the Gills in that match.

Despite the short term loan, Hessenthaler is hopeful Nowland can make an impact on the side and that an extension can be agreed.

Hess also stated that he hopes to bring another new face to the side in time for the Sheffield United match on Sunday week.
