O'Connor set for loan deal

The 21-year-old Irishman missed most of last season with a sciatic nerve problem. But he has recovered, built up his fitness and looks set to join Ronnie Jepson's new-look Gills side for the start of the season.

Talking to the Birmingham Mail, O'Connor said: "I spoke to Mick McCarthy, and we both agreed it was a good idea.

"With my injury, it was felt I needed games and to regain my fitness. I spoke to Mick and told him I didn't want to be playing reserve-team football.

"This is an opportunity to get back playing regularly.

"But my plan is to come back fully fit to Wolves, and then try and win my place back around Christmas and New Year."

O'Connor broke into the Wolves side at the start of last season before his back problem ruled him out for the rest of the season. But now back to fitness and looking set to join the Gills on loan, he'll provide Ronnie Jepson with much needed options in midfield going into the opening weeks of the season.

We'll confirm the move as and when it is announced by the club.
