Perpetuini: released
Perpetuini was playing on a month-to-month contract after returning from a cruciate ligament injury last season, ironically during the best spell of his Gills career.

Speaking to the Gills official website, manager Andy Hessenthaler said, 'Unfortunately David's been on a month to month - I gave him three games to prove to us that he needs a longer term deal - but I just feel that he's not giving us enough at the moment.

'Maybe he needs a fresh start somewhere else, so we will be releasing him. It is a harsh decision but I believe it's something we need to do.

'He has done great for us, but unfortunately got that bad injury, probably hasn't recovered from that fitness wise and is not affecting the game as we would like.

'It's a decision that we had to make between the chairman and myself.

'If by David moving on gives me a chance of bringing someone else in then that's the way it has got to be. It's however one of the toughest decisions I've had to make as a manager.

'It wouldn't have been right to say "see you later" after his injury because you can't do that to players. Well you can do, but to me I don't think that would have been right.

'He has not done too much wrong - I just feel that with the way the results have been going we do need a change around, and bringing the lad Nowland in pushes him down the pecking order as we're also trying to bring in other players to the midfield areas.

'It is a tough call and it isn't a personal thing as he is a good lad who has done well for the football club. I just feel that he needs a fresh start somewhere else.'

'Perps' has been a good player for the club since his £100,000 arrival from Watford in August 2001. He made 64 starts for the Gills, scoring 5 goals.

We at Gills365 wish David all the best in his future career.
