Gillingham will be without strikers Adebayo Akinfenwa (groin) and Cody McDonald (calf).
Manager Andy Hessenthaler is expected to start Mark McCammon and Stefan Payne in attack, after they both scored for the reserves in midweek.
Gillingham travel to Vale Park looking to avoid a club record 33rd game without an away win.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:"I'm not talking about their away record - records are there to be broken and I'm sure that is in the back of their mind.
"We have to wary of their attacking threat, we have to play on their weaknesses as best we can and make sure we are solid at the back.
"We need to understand that teams raise their games when they play us because we are top of the league, we need to match them."
Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "Mark scored from a penalty and young Stefan Payne scored two so that's good news.
"It gives them confidence and gives us the option to think about the forward line we pick for the weekend.
"McCammon has just got to keep working hard - not just on a Saturday when he comes on, but during the week as well.
"It's the same with young Stefan. He's looking hungry but obviously it's a blow losing your two strikers who have been playing on a regular basis."
