Robbo fancies Cambridge return

Cambridge: Iwan's next destination?
Roberts' move to Gillingham hasn't really worked out as both parties would have liked, despite an encouraging start that saw Roberts score three goals in the opening six Championship matches.

Since then his form dipped as the Gills slumped into a depressing run of poor results - and he ended the season out of favour after being frozen out by manager Stan Ternent.

Iwan went on loan to Cambridge in March to try to help them avoid relegation, but much like the Gills, they couldn't avoid the trapdoor and the U's will now be playing in the Conference next season.

Talking to the local press in Cambridge, Iwan said, "I had a tough time at Gillingham and lost a lot of enthusiasm but I got it back when I came to Cambridge.

"My agent is going to give the new manager a ring this week to see what's going to happen.

"Should Rob Newman want me and if there's nothing at Gillingham, I'd be interested."

Iwan: Hoping for a player-coach role
Iwan is hoping to continue his career in footbaIl as a coach and is in the process of studying for the UEFA A coaching badge. If Cambridge were interested, he'd relish the opportunity to join them in a player-coach role.

"I suppose a lot depends on the club's finances but while I'd like to do coaching, I want to play on.

"It will be a challenge for Rob next season and if I was there to help him, it would be a challenge for both of us. We've got plenty of contacts, so I'm sure we could get help from a number of people."

Gills365 Opinion
Iwan is one of footbaIl's nice guys and has been a superby professional during his career. We at Gills365 are as disappointed as Iwan that things didn't work out - and wish him all the best should he decide his future lies elsewhere.
