The Gills only paid £25,000 for Henderson - and it is not believed the club reached the point where performance-related bonuses needed to be paid to Royals, so the £450,000 received means the Gills have made a healthy profit on the big striker.
"It represents an excellent piece of business considering the position the club is in, although we did want him to stay and had build our pre-season around him," Scally said.
With the sale of Henderson, many fans had hoped that some of the money might be used to help fund a suitable replacement, but Scally suggested the funds will have to go to the bank, probably to help service our current debts. That doesn't mean the club aren't still looking for players, however, as Scally explained.
"The transfer funds don't alter as such as the money goes straight to the bank anyway, but we are still looking at players within our budget.
"We are very disappointed to see Darius go, but if a player doesn't want to be at the club then the best thing is to sell and concentrate on those that do."
