Shields departs Priestfield

Paul Shields: Had terrible luck with injuries
Shields, who arrived from Forfar with a decent goalscoring record, showed some good touches in his early appearances, helping to set up the winning goal on opening day against Colchester United.

But sadly injuries blighted Shields' season - and prevented him from making his mark on the first team. He broke his scoring duck in November in the 1-0 home win over Hartlepool United, and many fans felt a run in the side could bring out the best in Shields. But injuries struck once again, and he soon fell down the pecking order as Gary Mulligan was drafted in to help bolster the forward line.

The disappointing aspect of Shields season was the fact that he'd never suffered any injuries before his move - and just as it seemed he was starting to find his feet at Priestfield, he became crocked once again.

The loss of Shields has been seen as a disappointment by many fans who recognized his potential, but for others, the jury was still out on his ability at this level. We at Gills365 wish him well, and hope that he can start hitting the net once again for his next club.
