Shields: "I didn't come here to sit in the stands"
The 23-year-old striker scored 38 goals in 70 starts for the Loons - and joins up with the Gills for a fee thought to be around £25,000.  He has signed a two-year deal with an option for a third year.

Talking to the official Gillingham website, Shields said, "I knew I was going to leave Forfar as a few clubs were gaining interest and I had a few choices in Scotland, but once I came down to Gillingham the decision was made easy for me.

"I don't know the area as such, but the manager and chairman showed me around and made me feel really welcome. It's a fantastic set up here and better than most teams in the Scottish Premier League. It is a massive opportunity for me and one that I couldn't turn down."

"I've got a little bit of pace and I like holding the ball up, turning defenders and scoring goals.

"I don't know what the manager's plans are for Saturday, but I am ready for a start. I hope to play some part as I didn't come here to sit in the stands."

Shields is rated as an excellent prospect in Scotland - and he was the subject of tranfer speculation earlier in the summer when Forfar rebuffed an approach from Grimsby Town back in June.

He arrives at Priestfield hungry and ready for first-team footbalI. Boss Neale Cooper could even hand the striker his first-team debut this coming Saturday against Colchester United.

We welcome Paul to the club and wish him every success - and plenty of goals!
