Southall key to Gills survival - Stimson

Southall is now in his third spell with the club and has recently gone into business with former Gills teammate and Priestfield legend Andy Hessenthaler, having bought the old Lloyds Club on Featherby Road and relaunched it as a sports and social club called 4-4-TWO.

His affinity with the club and the area is something that Mark Stimson has recognized, with the Gills boss saying that the player known affectionately as "Trigger" can be a leading light in the club's attempts to beat the drop.

"Nicky has Gillingham in his blood because of what he has been through with the club. Now is about keeping this club in this division and if there is someone at this club who is going to put his body on the line it is going to be Nicky Southall," Stimson told the Kent Messenger.

"Living in the area and playing for the club through some good times and bad times he will know what it means more than other players."
