Stimson backs former club for top

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson believes his former side Stevenage will thrive in the Football League.Stevenage are one win away from the Blue Square Premier title, and Stimson - who won the FA Trophy with them in 2007 - thinks they are well prepared.

"They're a strong side. I've seen them play this year and they'll probably be in the top 10," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"Congratulations to them when they do it, they deserve it. The club is set up to be a league club."

"Everything about the place is correct," Stimson added.

"When they do it I'm sure I'll send a message to their manager (Graham Westley). He deserves the credit because it's a tough league to get out of. Fingers crossed they get over that line."

But Stimson is hoping his Gillingham side will not be playing Stevenage next year.

The Gills are currently three points outside the League One relegation zone, and are trying to avoid a return to League Two - just a year after being promoted.
