Stimson can't wait for summer clearout
Talking to the official website, Stimson spoke of his frustration regarding a handful of players in his squad who he feels have let him and the club down.
"It can be frustrating on the training ground. Unfortunately you have got to include these players in your training sessions. If you don't, these so-called footballers ring up the PFA and I get phone calls from the PFA saying "you haven't involved our player in your training session and you are not allowed to do that". I include them, I try to get them bright but after ten minutes you can see they are just wasting time and making it difficult for the good players and the players that want to progress; whether that is moving up this league with Gillingham or by moving on and furthering their careers at a higher level.
"It is frustrating for me as that is something I haven't come across in my managerial career. It is hard for me to take on board because I've been used to working with players who are desperate to be good players; Freddy Eastwood, Michael Kightly and Aaron McLean are desperate to get out of the division they are currently in and kick-on. We have got players at this club who I think could play at a higher level but when you have got three or four players who just bring the tone of it down, it is holding them back and most of all, it is holding Gillingham Football Club back.

"I don't go to church but I have started praying to get through to the summer and then have a massive clear-out; some of these players that say they want to play for this club but they don't. We have seen those players this week and I cannot wait for the summer to get rid of those and really move this club forward.
"There is a very good chance they have played their last game for Gillingham Football Club. If I have got nobody else to play, then they would obviously have to play. I would go down low though and this week, we've had the five scholars that have been offered professional contracts in with the group this week. They have trained with us two or three times and they all look capable of adding things to the squad.
"We all watch Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United and his free kicks are brilliant but his desire to run around a football pitch, it is second to none. If you have got that, then you have got a chance, especially with me. That is what we have gone with today and I'll be surprised if some of those players left out today will play for this club whilst I am in charge of this football club.
"It is going to be difficult to get rid of people because a lot of the players that I want out, they are on contracts. That makes it a lot harder. There are probably four or five players that I would like to get rid of. We'll have to sit down with those players in the summer, explain how I feel about them and have a man to man talk. Hopefully we can sort something out between them and the club that will be the best for both parties because I don't see them players being any part of what I want to achieve.
"I am someone that is honest and gives 100 per cent. I am not here to fool anyone by saying that I am the best Manager there ever will be and only giving 50 per cent. I give 100 per cent and I am a genuine person who comes to work and gives his best. That is all I ask from the players and we have seen things today that supporters and people in the media don't see. When you actually see them or you're on the other end of the phone, it does frustrate you.
"When we get to the training ground, things are good. It is getting players to the training ground! Sometimes they don't want to come in because this is affecting their social life for some of them. You think that these people are paid to play football for this club and this is where they should want to be. It is amazing and some supporters might think I am lying about certain players. We'll find out who they all are at the end of the season.
"What you have to do is log everything to make sure you don't miss a thing as players will come back at you with excuses. Everything has been logged and I cannot wait for the summer to say "you're gone so let's kick-on". There are players already making phone calls saying they want to come here and play for us next season. They will be good players for this level and that is why we want to stay in this league. If we want to entertain the likes of Kevin Maher and Danny Cullip, this is the level we need to be at next season. If we can get these players on board, they will get us into the top bracket of this league and that is what I came to this club for.
"I do feel that my job is being made a lot harder by certain individuals. These players are senior professionals; they know the game and have been around the block. I have been in that position myself but I was quite helpful to the club by asking for the minimum payoff as I was obviously going to play somewhere else. I went and got on with it. We have got certain players here on fantastic deals that they never should have got in the first place. One, they are not performing and two, they are not willing to go and play. They want to go and play for somebody like Bristol City or Watford but it would be other teams showing interest and they don't get a mention. I've had no phone calls for any of them so that gives me confidence in my own ability of judging players. If Bristol City or Watford were interested in them, I'd be thinking that I had made a mistake."
