Gillingham will be without strikers Cody McDonald and Adebayo Akinfenwa when they travel to leaders Port Vale. The former has sustained a grade-one calf strain, while the latter is struggling with a groin complaint, leaving manager Andy Hessenthaler with a selection headache. Mark McCammon and Stefan Payne impressed in the reserves' 3-1 victory over Wigan on Wednesday and could deputise, but Andy Barcham remains sidelined. Dennis Oli is on the verge of returning to full fitness, although the clash with Vale could come too soon for him and Danny Jackman may miss out after picking up an ankle knock. The Gills have endured a disappointing start to the campaign, but will be hoping to get back on track with three points at Vale Park.
