Swindon swoop for Smith

 | Smith: Heading for Gills' biggest rivals? |

Smith rejected a contract offer at Priestfield and walked away from the club, after seeing the Gills relegated from the Championship last season.
Swindon manager Andy King has been in the market for an experienced central midfielder - and King clearly believes that former Gills hero Smith fits the bill.
Whether the Wiltshire club is able to match Smith's salary expectations is unknown, however, but it is likely that Swindon will have more scope to offer a more competitive package to Smith, after selling star striker Sam Parkin to Ipswich Town.
While the vast majority of Gills fans will have wished Smith the best of luck for the remainder of his career, a move to Swindon may not go down too well with some of the fans who still hold the County Ground side as the Gills' biggest rivals.
We'll report any further developments on this story as we get them.
