Flynn: Adding energy to Gills' midfield
Flynn, who joined the Latics in 2002, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Gillingham - and goes straight into the squad for the Gills' trip to Watford this weekend.

The 24-year-old midfielder struggled to break into the first team at the JJB Stadium, but impressed the Latics fans with his workrate, energy and commitment. He forged a reputation as a supersub, causing problems when introduced from the bench in the final stages of matches.

However, Flynn's desire to play more than a bit-part has seen him move to Gillingham, where he becomes Stan Ternent's first permanent signing as Gillingham manager.

Commenting on his new signing, Ternent said quite simply, "I've brought Michael in because he's better than what I have in that position at the moment."

Before his move to Wigan, he had a prolific spell at Welsh League side Barry Town, where he netted an incredible 40 times from midfield in two seasons. His move to Wigan saw his playing time reduced, but he received rave reviews from his manager at the JJB, Paul Jewell.

Mike Flynn arrives at Priestfield as a man with a point to prove. He clearly has the desire, and according to Jewell, he has the ability too. The opportunities just weren't there at Wigan. They certainly will be at Gillingham.
