Byfield: Attracting interest from his former club
It was reported that Gillingham may have been prepared to sell, but subsequent reports have since stated that the Gills have rebuffed any approach from the Saddlers, saying that the club cannot afford to let any more players go.

It could unsettle Byfield, who, after an encouraging start, had a hugely disappointing debut season for the club last year - and whose performances have seen his attitude and effort questioned by large sections of the club's fanbase.

The new season could provide Byfield with a fresh chance under a new manager, but Walsall's interest in the striker, who used to play for the Saddlers, might give the opportunity for a cash sale to help Neale Cooper bring in players of his choosing.

We'll bring any further developments on this story as they break.
