Welling United player-manager Jamie Day is keen to bring back young Gillingham loan striker Andy Pugh to the club.Pugh, 21, hit eight goals in 15 games in his second loan spell with Welling, signing off with a hat-trick in the 5-0 win at Woking a week ago.
But he was sorely missed on Saturday when the Wings slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Bath City.
"We've put in an offer. His movement, on and off the ball, is exceptional," Day told BBC Radio Kent."
"We need to get someone in sooner rather than later and I would like that player to be Andy. But we know other clubs are interested."
Pugh, now into his fourth season at Priestfield, has made just nine appearances, all from the bench.
What I'm looking for now is a top-half finish. That would represent a good season for us

He went out on loan to Welling for the majority of the 2007/08 season, then spent the second half of last season at Grays, hitting seven goals in 17 games. And he also had a month with Dover Athletic this season prior to joining Welling for a three-month spell, which ended last week.
Saturday's defeat was Welling's first in 2010, having enjoyed a nine-game unbeaten run since the Boxing Day home defeat by Bromley.
"We huffed and puffed," admitted Day. "But we didn't deserve anything from the game.
"What I'm looking for now is a top-half finish. That would represent a good season for us."
Welling lie 11th in Blue Square South, just six points shy of the play-off places.
