Hess: Optimistic the side can turn the corner
Hessy spoke to the official site after the match - and while he said the side played well for much of the game, he acknowledged the poor defending that ultimately cost the Gills a point.

"I am very disappointed with the result. I don't think we could criticise the performance as the players went out there, and gave it their all. In the second half, we were camped in their half. We just need something to fall for us. It was a poor goal to give away from the free kick, and the lads all know it. Unfortunately for us, it is just not happening. We hit the post, we hit the bar and we just need one to go in for us, things will change then. We have just got to keep our spirits up and keep believing that we will turn it around."

Despite the side falling to their third defeat in the space of a week, but Hess pointed to a number of chances that on another day could have sealed a much-needed win.

"Today, Jarvis had a good chance that their keeper saved, Cox hit the post, Hislop had a header go against the bar and their keeper tipped one over from Shields. Couple of their players out there said to me that they were getting battered, although they have come away with the three points, and we have nothing. That is football, unfortunately."

"The Gaffer said after the game that it was a poor goal to give away but I cannot criticise you on your performance. Him and Ronnie are doing a great job in keeping our spirits up and have said we just have to keep believing in ourselves."

It's been a frustrating seven days for the Gills faithful, but Hessy paid tribute to the fans for keeping behind the side despite another disappointing result.

"I thought the fans were very good today. They were a bit frustrated in midweek when we conceded the two goals after we played so well in the first half. It is difficult for them as they want us to do well, and we want to do well for them. They were fantastic today, they stayed with us all the way, and they saw the effort we put in right until the final whistle. Unfortunately, it was just not our day."
