Gills365 League Review: Division One - Week 6

Last updated : 06 February 2007 By Guffie

Elliott's long unbeaten run finally comes to an end on home soil as Tedhowes made it 3 wins in a row, beating Mr T 1-2. People must beware and play for the full ninety minutes against Ted because his three wins have all come with a last minute winner. There have been allegations by some more jealous members of the league that the ref is offered a weeks holiday in Oz if he were to blow the whistle as soon as Ted goes ahead in the game. These can't be totally discounted or how else would you explain Ted's sudden run of form?

This left the door open for Jagman to go top if he were to win his game but he had a tough away fixture against KFG who hadn't lost at home in this league. Obviously Jaggers was still feeling the effects of his embarrassing defeat at home by Headley last week and hadn't got his team ready for a match of this calibre. This left KFG the chance of an easy 4-2 victory and allowed him to close the gap on the leaders.

Guffie moves into third place after a walk in the park at Headley's ground. It was a 2-4 victory to Guffie with his team not even getting out of second gear but still managing to make Headley's defence look very ordinary. Headley now finds himself plummeting towards the bottom of the league and his 'marathon not a sprint' is beginning to turn into a marathon a la Paula Radcliffe.

However Markg might take some shifting off the bottom slot after being totally whitewashed at home by Jonhinio 0-4. Jonhinio's London Marathon training is obviously agreeing with him and his team as he has now scored eight goals in his last two games and only conceded one. Mark is now really struggling for any sort of form and has only won once in his last six games.

Mark may take some shifting off the bottom spot but Fred is certainly trying his hardest to manage this. When he played Trueblue earlier in the season he was beaten by one goal and was beaten by one goal again this time as he went down 2-3 at home. I don't fully know what happened as reports are still coming in from Needle Park, which is now like a war zone, but apparently Fred was two nil up with three minutes to play when someone mentioned the rugby and Trueblue just exploded.

The Evens league winner Wilts has also been struggling and has conceded the most goals in this league, so probably wasn't looking forward to the arrival of third placed Martb on his doorstep. But somehow, and God only knows how, Wilts managed to raise his game and after a bitter struggle and a lot of last minute defending, ended the game with a credible 2-2 draw. Martb will no doubt consider this a poor result but Wiltsy will be hoping this can lift his team's really poor morale.

Wiltsy may have the worst goals conceded record in the league but by far the worst goals scored record is easily taken by Zoidy. He hasnt even reached double figures yet having only scored eight (yes thats right.....eight), and five of those were in last weeks game. This week he was away to Symongills who he had beaten 4-1 earlier this season. So with the memory of that result and his two new strikers he was feeling fairly optimistic. Well I'm afraid Zoidy's new strikers never even got a look in as Symon totally dominated the game from start to finish and ended up thrashing Zoidy 4-0. Mind you it could have been much worse if Symon hadn't played the cleaner and the tea-lady up front.

11th placed SkoobiBloo was away to 12th placed Baldangel and was in no doubt as to what to expect as the last time they had met it finished in a 4-4 draw and Baldangel's last five home games had finished in draws. And so it was looking with this game until Skoobi managed a very late goal to make it 2-3 and leave Baldangel with no chance of an equaliser.

GTAT played host to Townender this week and was looking to get some consistancy going knowing that Townender hadn't won away from home in this league. As expected it was a tight game but GTAT just scraped it with his banker and won 2-1. They all count.

7th met 8th as Medwayblue took on Gillsalltheway with Medwayblue showing the slightly better form of the two. Medway ended up winning quite easily 3-1 and dropping GATW from 8th right down to 14th. Thats how tight the league is at the moment, one mistake and wallop, you're suddenly joining Mark and Fred. (Not a nice thought).
